ULIP (Unit Linked Insurance Plan)
ULIP is one of the insurance product offered by the Life Insurance Corporation of India. ULIP is different from all other Lic Insurance Policies. ULIP or Unit Linked Plan is basically a combination of investment as well as insurance. Lic ULIP gives the benefits of both investment and insurance to the investor under a single integrated plan. Unit Linked Insurance Plans are just like mutual funds, with the corpus invested in stock market, but the difference is there is also an insurance component along with the investment.
If you want to take the Lic Ulip, you have to pay the premium to the insurance company just like other insurance policies. In that premium a part of money is utilized to provide insurance cover to the Lic policy holder. While the other part is invested in various equity and debt schemes. Just like the mutual funds, the money collected by the insurer will be utilized to form a pool of fund. It is used to invest in various markets instruments (equity and debt) in varying proportions. Here the policy holder can choose the type of investment that is either debt or equity or mix of both as per his need or requirement.
* An equity investment means buying and holding of shares of stock on a stock market by firms and individuals in anticipation (expectation) of income from capital gains and dividends, as the value of the stock rises.
* A debt means an amount of money owed by one party (the borrower or debtor), to a second party (the lender or creditor). Creditor can charge some interest to the debtor.
